A cabriolet conversion was offered by Karosserie Baur, called the TopCabriolet (TC). It consisted of a targa roof and an independent rear soft-top. Production of the TopCabriolet began in 1978 and the cars were sold via the BMW dealership network. The E21 3-Series TC1 was built with full factory authorization, and covered under the factory warranty.
All Baur models included the BMW warranty. A total of 4.595 vehicles were manufactured before production ended. In 1982, came the second generation, the E30.
Baur was a bodywork factory in Stuttgart. The factory existed from 1910 to 1999 and was mainly known for its progressive techniques, such as working with plastic. Before World War II, Baur produced bodyworks for mainly luxury brands, including Mercedes, Maybach and Horch. After the war the company also produced bodies in small numbers for brands such as Veritas and BMW. This is how Baur's long partnership with BMW began. In the mid-seventies, the successor to the Neue Class, the BMW E21. After two years it was delivered again as a Baur convertible. These cars were delivered to Baur as normal two-door models, where the roof was dragged off and the Targa bracket mounted. This conversion was mentioned among the options, after the sliding roof. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Baur also built the fantastic BMW M1 racing car. Baur was taken over by IVM Automotive in 1999.
This BMW E21 318i Baur, a very rare model in a stunning combination of Ziprizze green color over beige interior. The car is after complete restoration, which was done by professional company in 2019. The car is in absolute top condition and drives like new. Restoration consisted of new paint job, complete engine job, new Bilstein B8 shock absorbers, all new chassis parts, new exhaust pipe, new breaks, electric wiring, carpets, and other parts were restored or changed for original new parts. The car has no big issues. The only 2 issues would be louder differential sound and small short circuit which makes the fuel metter and engine temperature meter go off-line.
